1781 Libertas Americana Medal MS64 Brown NGC. Betts-615. Bronze. 47.63mm, 48.41 gm, per the NGC holder. A gorgeous needle-sharp chocolate-brown example of this famous and historical early American medal. The diagnostic obverse die lumps at 7 o'clock and above the trailing hair curls are present here, and the surfaces are smooth aside from a few subtle and small obverse gray spots near the border. Lightly double struck within the collar, with minute obverse die counterclockwise rotation between strikes, visible primarily on LIBERTAS. The Libertas Americana Medal was designed and commissioned by Benjamin Franklin, and the portrait of Liberty was the obvious inspiration for the Liberty Cap design introduced on the U.S. half cent and cent in 1794.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
