Bronze censer with elephant legs

This bronze vessel with dark brown patina dates back to China the 17th/18th century. The vessel, in the shape of an archaic ding, is carried by three high legs in the form of elephant heads and forms a cylindrical body. Two vertical handles are found on the sides and a wooden lid with an open work decoration of ruyi motives closes the vessel. The wall is adorned with a revolving border of dragons in archaic style. In the interior seal script characters are visible.



The bronze vessel is in good condition with natural patina and slight signs of age and wear. The knob is repaired and some loss of material is visible here and there. The height measures 19.5 cm.
