Traditionally these stones were naturally occurring rocks, which were appreciated by Chinese scholars for their aesthetic qualities and a favorite motif in classical Chinese painting. Larger rocks were often displayed in traditional Chinese gardens. Inspired by these natural rocks, the present piece is of naturalistic form with holes, rough edges and a fbrown and green patina. A beautiful and decorative object that would have been placed on a scholar’s desk. A naturally shaped wooden plinth carries the special bronze.
