Severus II (Valerius Severus) was appointed Caesar by emperor Galerius in 305 A.D. He ruled until 307 A.D., when he was killed. Severus II was sent by Galerius to Rome, to quell a rebellion mounted by Maxentius. Maxentius united with Maximian, and Severus II's own army soon sided with Maximian, whereupon Severus II was murdered (or, by some accounts, forced to kill himself).
