The reverse depicts the emperor standing, and reads GLORIA ROMANORVM "the glory of Rome". Honorius was born on September 9, 384 A.D., the younger brother of Arcadius, and son of Theodosius I. Unlike Arcadius, Honorius was a comparatively strong ruler, holding power for some 30 years. Yet his reign was marked by the sacking of Rome, an event not theretofore witnessed for many centuries. He died in 423, leaving no heir. JC-30101-55
