<td width="100%">
Seated cross-legged in the lotus position (vajrasana), this
bronze 4-faced Buddhist icon looks quite old and unique. Very
detailed carving with 4 distinct faces.
This was found in Dunhuang, China, a rural city at the remote
western end of the Great Wall. Since ancient times, Dunhuang
has been the western hub of commerce and culture along the
Silk Road between India, Tibet and China. Guan Yin, the Buddhist
Bodhisattva of compassion and loving kindness, is also known
as Kuan Yin in China, Chenrezig and Tara in Tibet, Kannon and
Kanzeon in Japan, and Avalokiteshwara in Sanscrit. The long ears
represent her ability to hear the cries of all beings. She will
answer the prayers of anyone who seeks her help and tales of
her miracles abound in China and Tibet. The Dalai Lama is
considered to be the current incarnation of this divine being.
