Beautiful signed 19th C bronze sculpture of an allegorical figure.
This
figure may be called Liberty, Freedom, or Knowledge. She
carries high a torch and with the other hand holds the
horn-of-plenty (a rams horn). She barely wears a Grecian
gown which reveal her virginal breasts. A lions head is at the
neckline. She sports a fetching pair of high laced sandals, a
small belt and on her head is a starred diadem. Although she
has beautiful wings, we do not think she is Victory (Victoria
Nike) because of the fruit. You will note that she is balanced on
the balls of her feet.

Signed J Boesc, 1881 on the base.

Research has yielded nothing about this artist. If you know
anything about this artist, please email.

She was cast in two parts, legs and torso.
She is attached to a turned socket of dark green marble. The
screw may have been replaced, as it looks newer than the rest.

21-1/4 inches overall height. 8 inch wingspan. The base is
5-1/4 x 4-3/4
Nice dark patina, burnished in some
places. The only significant ware is some tiny surface
nicks on her front leg.
A few other minor scratches here and there,
but nothing that
detracts. Marble base has some nicks as
well.
