Broadside Washington Enforces Embargo Act, 1794
Post-Revolutionary War to Civil War
President George Washington Enforces the United States Embargo Act
April 2, 1794-Dated, Federal Period, Official Third Congressional Printed Broadside, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, pertaining to the Embargo Act, as ordered and Signed in print by President George Washington, Choice Crisp Mint.
This is an original, never folded, 13.25”x 8.25”, Official Congressional Broadside, dated as being “Approved - April 2, 1794,” by George Washington, also with Frederick Muhlenberg, Speaker of the House or Representatives and John Adams, Vice-President of the U.S. and President of the Senate. This superb document reads, in part:

“...That during the continuance of the present embargo, no registered vessel, having on board goods, wares or merchandise, shall be allowed to depart from one port of the United States to any other port within the same, unless the master, owner, consignee or fact shall first give bond with one or more sureties, to the collector of the district from which she is about to depart. That the several collectors be prohibited from granting a clearance to any foreign ship or vessel, in any case whatever, during the continuance of the present embargo; and all armed vessels possessing public commissions from any foreign power, (letters of marque excepted) are to be considered as not liable to the embargo.”

Boldly and well printed in deep black on very clean, fine quality period laid paper which has never even been folded. An important document related to the policies of the United States in that turbulent Post-Revolutionary War period of the fledgling Republic.
