British percussion trade gun by Barnett of London, dated 1883. Showing serpentine sideplate, Fox and Tombstone markings, fully tacked with beaded and fringed original rifle scabbard. The gun measures 48-1/4” overall, with 34-1/4” barrel of .60 caliber smoothbore. Full stocked to the muzzle, iron triggerguard with brass serpentine sideplate secured by three screws. The lock reads Barnett London, 1883 and shows Fox and Tombstone mark at rear and on rear of breech with London and Barnett proofs which are lightly visible. The metal surfaces show a dark brown to black patina with scattered light to slightly pitting and erosion, the heavier pitting occurring at firing areas. The stock is well worn and shows scorching and darkening from being near many camp fires. The stock has been cut down at the comb and buttplate removed in Indian fashion. The stock shows some losses at the wrist area and front of comb. The stock is well worn, shows the right type patina and age. The gun shows many tacks, some of which are missing, wear around the areas that are missing, some tacks show slight cleaning long ago, others show dark patina. A green died wood ramrod of the period is included. The action is working.
