British pattern of 1844 Yeomanry carbine
about .67 caliber percussion, 20" barrel with an about very good bore. The barrel is primarily a light speckled brown patina with pewter undertones and is mostly smooth showing appropriate proofs on its top and right radius, the scant iron front sight and u-notch rear sights are intact. The lockplate is a lightly speckled pewter gray patina with the hammer being more of a dark gray case-hardened tarnished pewter patina, each show light engraving with the appropriate "(Royal Crown)/VR/Tower 1844" marked lock. The brass furniture has dulled to a pleasing goldenrod patina with the buttplate tang being nicely rack marked "D/13". The English walnut stock rates about very good with much original varnish but overall minor dings and handling marks from the years. Acceptance marks can still be seen at the rear of the triggerguard tang with a stock contractor marking "Byrne" on the left stock flat and broad arrow board of ordnance markings on the right of the butt. The lock is crisp and mechanically functional, the original ramrod is present, the ring is intact on the left-side bar and there is a chained nipple protector included, it's leather has degraded. An overall very good example of a very seldom-encountered Victorian carbine.
