British military flintlock pistol circa late 18th to early 19th century showing GR and crown at center portion of lock and measuring 16” overall with 9 ¼” barrel of approximately .69 caliber smoothbore. The trigger guard is period engraved “Bucks” in block letters indicating use by Buck volunteers who were part of the 85th Regiment of a light infantry and part of wellingtons Army who came from France in 1814 and took part in The Battle of Blandinsburg, the capture of Washington D.C., and finally met their demise at the Battle of New Orleans. The metal surfaces show a dark un-cleaned brown patina finish with traces of fresh rust and no cleaning. All original flintlock parts. The stock is very good with just normal aging, a couple of small stress cracks, minor worming and normal use. The mounts are completely untouched and the engraving on trigger guard is absolutely genuine. This is the only such marked pistol we have seen in 44 years of selling fine antique arms and we know of only 3 muskets with these markings one of which we recently sold at auction a few catalogs ago. Est.: $2,500-$5,000.
