British heavy Calvary sword, circa early 19th century, showing blue and gilt blade with its original scabbard. The blade measures 32-1/2", 37" overall, simple D guard, wire wrapped leather handle; blade measures almost 1-5/8" across the widest part at the ricasso. The blade is in very good condition, showing most of its original polish, approximately 50% blue and gilt, with stand of arms scenes, British crest, GR andcrown, English Cavalrymen on horseback and decorative scrolls. The blue portion extends approximately 19-1/2" down the blade, some normal toning, pinprick pitting just starting. The original scabbard shows a deep brown patina, some dents, and scattered light to heavy pitting. The grip condition is good. We would date the sword from the War of 1812 to the Napoleonic era.
