British Royal Navy surgeon's bronze mortar with handles, 1600s. 6204 grams, 7" tall, 8" diameter at top, 4-3/4" diameter at base. Very large and heavy bowl for apothecaries with simple ringed design on outside, 2 sturdy handles on the sides (side lift lugs to be used with a rope lift handle for shipboard use), green patina with slight encrustation. Found at the Chatham dock yard of the Royal Navy and said to be a relic of the June 1667 Dutch raid on the English fleet. With photo-certificate.
