British Proofed Colt Model 1911A1 Semi-Automatic Pistol
This Colt M1911A1 Automatic Pistol was manufactured in 1944. Records show that this pistol was shipped from Colt to Springfield Armory in December 1944. The pistol has the Colt gray-green parkerized finish with a blued barrel and checkered brown plastic stocks. The pistol has a late, seven rib, mainspring housing, narrow spur hammer with bordered knurling, checkered slide stop and safety lock and stamped trigger. The 'Coltwood' stocks have large screw reinforcing rings, interior strengthening ribs and mold numbers. The pistol has a WWII production, full blued magazine, with "C-S" marked floor plate. The left side of the barrel chamber is stamped: "COLT 45 AUTO" and a "P" is stamped on the left side of the barrel lug. A small "F" is stamped on the underside of the barrel in front of the lug. The frame feed ramp is parkerized; this is the correct finish for a Colt M1911A1 in this serial number range. The Ordnance escutcheon is stamped on the right side of the frame behind the stock. "UNITED STATES PROPERTY/No1712254" is roll-stamped in two lines behind the slide stop hole and "M1911A1 U.S.ARMY" is stamped in a single line in front of it. The Colt "triangle/V/P" inspection mark is stamped on the left trigger guard bow. The Ordnance final inspection mark "G.H.D." is stamped vertically on the left side of the frame below the slide stop cut-out. A "P" proofmark is stamped behind and below the magazine release. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the Colt 1897-1913 patent dates in a two-line block followed by the Rampant Colt trademark. The Colt Hartford address is roll-stamped in a two-line block behind the Rampant Colt. A "P" proofmark is stamped on the top of the slide in front of the rear sight. The slide is, correctly, not stamped with the pistol serial number. The pistol is stamped with British commercial proof marks that consist of: (1) London "Crown C/P" proof on the right side of the frame, right rear of the slide and right side of the barrel chamber, (2) "NOT ENGLISH MAKE" stamped on the right side of the frame above the trigger guard bow, and "N.P." nitro proofmark stamped on the right side of the barrel chamber. "RELEASED/BRITISH GOVT. 1952" is stamped on the right side of the slide in two lines.
