Manuscript DS, one page, 8 x 11.75, November 13, 1649. Document from the Committee of the Navy regarding payment to aldermen of Dublin. Signed at the conclusion by Thomas Chaloner, Augustine Skinner, Benjamin Valentine, George Thomson, and one other. Removably encapsulated in a Mylar sleeve. In very good condition, with mounting strips to edges and some scattered foxing, and a small hole affecting the first name in Valentine’s signature. Chaloner is especially notable among this group, having been commissioner at the trial of Charles I and signer of his death warrant in the same year as this document. It is also important to note that these signers comprise the entire committee of the Navy, part of Rump Parliament. This document relates to the mayor of Dublin and was drafted in the midst of the British occupation of Ireland, an event that would go on to have a profound impact for centuries.
