British P-1853 Enfield Three-Band Percussion Musket, by Potts & Hunt, London, NVSN, .58 cal., 39'' bright barrel, ''(crown)/CP'' and ''(crown)/V'' proofmarks, brass buttplate, triggerguard, and lockplate escutcheons; English walnut stock. It is interesting to note that the Enfield Pattern 1853 rifled musket was the second most widely used Infantry weapon of the Civil War, surpassed only by the Springfield Model 1861 rifled musket. The Confederates imported more Enfields during the war than any other small arm and saw service in every major engagement from the Battle of Shiloh, to the final battles of 1865. Condition is very good with mild general patination to bright surfaces. Stock with scuffs, scratches, pressure dings, and pinned fracture between lockplate screws on left side. Nipple appears to be a later replacement. Ramrod is present, with small loss to stock at ramrod channel. Action and bore are good. Est.: $1,500-$2,000. (Antique)
