British Officer's Mameluke Sword
Late 18th or early 19th century British Officer's Mameluke sword with elaborate etched blade. The iron scabbard is engraved with the sword maker's name and address, "Pitter (illegible)/ Bedford St. Covent Garden London". The 30 inch sharply curved blade has a 8 1/4" false edge, and is elaborately etched with floral patterns, Britainia stands of arms, and the Royal cypher and seal. "WARRANTED" is etched on the obverse ricasso. The sword has a steel cruciform guard with dual lagnets. The gold-plated brass backstrap is engraved with oak leaves. The sword has ebony grips with gold-plated, two piece, rivets. Iron scabbard with a short drag, dual hanging rings and a relief cut on the rear to facilitate the draw.

Very good. The sword has an excellent blade with crisp etching that shows minimal wear. The backstrap has 80% original gold plated finish hilt. There are two repaired hairline cracks in the reverse grip. The scabbard is in good condition with a dark patina and scattered light pitting.
