Oil on canvas, framed. Featuring an abstract style painting. Signed and attr. William Scott (British, 1913-1989), on the lower right corner. 46 x 40.5 cm (18.1 x 15.9 in.). William Scott was a Scottish-born British still-life painter who was influenced by the work of both Georges Braque and Paul Klee. Characterized by flat areas of color and descriptive lines, his paintings explored the various forms found in daily life. About his work, Scott said, “I am an abstract artist in the sense that I abstract. I cannot be called non-figurative while I am still interested in the modern magic of space, primitive sex forms, the sensual and the erotic, disconcerting contours, the things of life.” PROVENANCE: Southern Ontario estate
