British Naval style blunderbuss with lock marked London and mounts similar to Brown Bess of 1770-1780’s. The gun measures 31” overall with 16” flared mouth cannon type barrel of which is nearly 2” across andapprox 1-1/2” bore. The barrel shows a “V & P” proof. The side plate shows a slight curve and tail like Brown Bess. The lock shows light to heavy pitting and a dark patina, the brass is unpolished. The stockis fair with some brakes, small losses and minor repairs. The action is good and parts are all original. Refer Richard K. Bourne auction catalogue of James Elwood Jones collection 1981.
