General Sir John Moore document signed, dated 27 May 1808 from Sweden. The British Red Coat, who fought in America against the colonists from 1778-1783, here authorizes payment of 11,970 pounds sterling to regimental paymasters. In 1808, Moore was assigned to assist the Swedish in the Baltic. He then took command of British troops to defend the Iberian peninsula against Napoleon and met his death there at the Battle of Corunna in January 1809. 8'' x 12.5'' document bears intact red wax seal. Moderate wear to edges, else very good.
