British Civil War Era Tower Pattern 53 Percussion Musket Dated 1863 with Bayonet
Blade/bayonet lug front sight and folding ladder rear sight graduated to "8" with a base graduate to "4". The barrel is marked "25" and "25" amid 3 small British proofs on the left side. "25" is the gauge marking for .577, which was used on exported muskets. Many of these were supplied to the Confederacy by the British during the Civil War. The lock plate is marked with a crown behind the hammer and "1863 / TOWER" ahead. Light border engraving on the lock and hammer with a small engraved section on the hammer. The brass trigger guard appears to have three double stamped "A"s, with two "A"s appearing on the brass buttplate. Smooth straight grip stock with brass tip, an illegible oval proof on the left stock flat, and leather sling. The right side of buttstock has a brass circle overlay marked "41" and stamped with the Toledo Works Birmingham address in a circle. Complete with a swollen head iron ramrod and socket bayonet with leather sheath featuring brass tip and throat.

Good. Overall the musket has a bright gray patina with even minor pitting on the barrel and barrel bands. The brass buttplate and trigger guard have an even aged patina with some minor dings on the buttplate. The stock is excellent with an absent chip near the toe, a few minor gouges, and some minor dings and scratches. The bayonet is very good with the blade having a mottled gray patina and the socket having a smooth dark patina. The sheath is very good with some minor handling marks.
