Henry Arthur Richard Bird, ARCA, FIAL. Born on July 15th, 1909 in Northampton and died on April 16th, 2002. He studied at the Northampton School of Art and the RAC. Bird was a member of the Art Workers Guild and the Society of Mural Painters. His public works range from pub signs to the vast and impressive fire curtains commissioned for the Royal Theatre, Northampton and the Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon. He was head scene painter at the Old Vic and at Sadler?s Wells, London. He also produced murals and panels of both religious and secular subjects for numerous Northampton churches and chapels at Earls Barton, St Crispin, Denton and Charwelton. Bird was one of the few artists comfortable with the grand scale of ambitious public paintings. He was exhibited widely in London and the provinces.
