British 3rd Model Brown Bess 75 caliber, 39-1/4” barrel, 55-1/8” overall showing tower mark at rear of lock, “G.R” and Broad head proofs with bayonet. The stock by the rear ram rod channel shows a swell and hammer hasa goose neck with lazy S side plate indicating early 3rd model mfg. 1770-80’s. The metal surfaces show a smooth brown patina with some light pitting and erosion, normal aging. The lock is well marked, retainsoriginal small parts. The stock shows some small worm holes that have been filled in the butt and some small losses around the channel. The stock has had some small areas of wood filler and been lightly refinished. The butt plate shows an old crack and repair with period ram rod. Generally good overall considering the restoration to the stock. From an old N.Y. collector’s estate. Est.;$1,000-$2,000.
