Breton# 559, CH-VC-3A2, 1811 Vexator Canadiens is Brass, noted as "Very rare" in Charlton's Standard Catalog of Canadian Colonial Tokens. Reeded edge. 126.1 gns, 27.6mm. Reverse die aligned U.S. "coin turn' style. VF. The Vexator canadiensis tokens have been described by Charlton as being ". ..among the world's most interesting coins." In general, any Vexator is at least very scarce in any condition. Breton wrote in 1894 that the Vexator Canadiensis tokens were struck following Sir James Craig's haughty and dictatorial governorship of Canada, 1807-1811 According to Breton, 'The coins illustrated i.e., the Vexator's are satirical pieces relating to the administratio of this Governor, and to judge from the inscription on the obverse, describe him as the 'Pest of Canadians,' or better, 'the Torment of Canadians.' The reverse has been translated to mean 'Don't you wish you may catch them.
