Northern Tribal Wedding Good Luck sculpture, placed on a womans head or hat for the ceremony….then kept afterwards as an amulet. Called dungdung, information on them can be found on page 241 of the UCLA Catalog. The outstretched arms might be a response to the Christian message brought by the Spanish Friars in the 1600s. Others have interpreted it as representing how a Tribal person greets the dawn with outstretched arms, which then symbolizes the new day of entering into the marriage. 3-1/8" tall and retaining some of the black paint that they are first covered with.
