Brass Ewer Presented to St. Matthew's Church 1897
Featured in this lot is this brass church ewer presented to St. Matthew's Bayswater Anglican Church in West London circa 1897. This was used for holding water for washing ceremonies such as baptisms and foot washings. In Catholic churches, the ewer could also hold water for the priest to wash their hands before Mass. The piece shows a polished brass construction showing a beautiful curved handle and a large spout. The top is stamped reading, "Presented to St. Matthew's Bayswater by A.L. July 1897". The piece shows good condition overall with wear present from its age and use over the years, but no signs of obvious damage is noted. The ewer measures 8 1/2" in length, 8 3/4" in width and 14 3/4" in height. It weighs 4 pounds.
