Brass Armbands, in the Style of the Pre-Revolutionary Indian Trade

Both armbands are silver finished brass, approximately 2 inches wide and 4 5/8 inches in diameter, with engraved spread-winged eagle designs and starburst patterns, a set of two holes on each end suitable for threading, and a set of small proof stamps; "W*E" and a seated dog on the front below the eagle, and a conjoined "BI" stamp on the right end. Included with the bands are photocopies from the book "Silver in the Fur Trade 1680-1820" by Martha Wilson Hamilton, which attributes the "W*E" and dog stamps to William Evans, a jeweler known to have produced arm and wrist bands, hair ornaments, and other items for the North American fur trade circa 1761-1776, including royal medals to be conferred to native chiefs.

Fine overall. 40% of the original silver remains, showing a dark antique patina overall with a few brighter spots, with the remainder of the surface showing well aged brass. The detail in the engraving is good, and some light handling marks are visible overall.
