Over the years, we've seen hundreds of different "atlases". This one takes the cake for its combination of mining and geography. Published by Bradstreet, a well known commercial ratings service and publisher (professional researchers use the Bradstreet publications as business directories). Here, Bradstreet changed its presentation and format drastically, for the first and only time that we know of. They published a map atlas, and on pages opposite some of the western states, published mining district maps and related mining sections. We've never seen this before. Of particular interest are the Bodie and Leadville maps (with multiple Leadville views) and the Comstock which both were at their early production heights. It is thus easy to understand why Bradstreet published these - any businessman from anywhere, USA who was interested in one of these huge and profitable mining districts could look at more detail of the district, while looking at accompanying state geographic maps to try to figure out how to get there. Only four reported by institutional holdings. A true mega-Rarity. 1882 Bradstreet's Pocket US Atlas. Published for Macullar, Parker & Co, Boston. Color maps. 5.25x3.25".
