<td width="100%">
I am offering a rare and handsome pair of bookends, circa 1930s, featuring a quotation from SAMUEL JOHNSON. The Johnson quote reads as follows: "BOOKS THAT YOU MAY CARRY TO THE FIRE AND HOLD READILY IN YOUR HAND ARE THE MOST USEFUL AFTER ALL - JOHNSONIANA". On the bottom of each bookend is an original paper label that states "SAMUEL JOHNSON BORN IN ENGLAND 1709, DIED 1784 a CELEBRATED SCHOLAR, ESSAYIST and LEXICOGRAPHER." These bookends are attributed to BRADLEY and HUBBARD, B&H, due to the high quality casting , finish, and descriptive paper label common to B&H bookends. No maker's markings on back.
Great ORIGINAL bronzed finish over metal. Excellent and crisp condition of their age. Age and use appropriate surface wear. Pictures serve as part of the description. Very presentable. Perfect for a library or executive office. Real charmers.
