Cookeville, Tennessee
Golden rain tree, metallic paint
3.75 x 6 x 7.5 inches

Artist Statement: The piece of golden rain tree was from North Carolina. It was given to me by a friend and fellow wood carver, Eric Malone. He found it in someone’s firewood pile. The wood had been split and I loved the texture caused by the extremely curly figure. I wanted to leave ‘traces’ of this textures in the finished piece. This new series of vessel form is inspired by geology of the Rocky Mountains. I have used a metallic finish on the piece and carved an angular footed vessel form. Pyrite is also known as fools gold.
