This is a wonderful advertising item for Reliance Elevators: 2 different decks of playing cards in a burgundy flocked box, featuring " Handy Andy. " He is a funny-looking man in coveralls, shirt sleeves rolled up, arms crossed over his chest. His tool bag rests next to him. He has a candle coming out of the top of his head. I don't quite get this, I confess. Maybe it is to light his way while he works in dark elevator shafts. Or maybe it represents a bright idea. In any case, he is certainly a character! One deck has a linen finish with a brown Handy Andy on a yellow background. An ace in this deck identifies it as made by Bigelow & Brown of St. Paul. The other deck has a gold Andy on a deep teal blue background with a fancy frame in greys and white; the finish is smooth. An ace in this deck tells that it was made by ARRCO Playing Card Co. of Chicago. The smooth lithographed finish of this deck did not hold up quite as well as the linen: about half of the cards have minor scratches on the blue. This deck also shows a little fading. Still, it is in excellent condition. Both decks have 1 joker each, and both have 4 cards that have a crease line on them on a corner. I am not sure that this is the original box.
