Gene Wensel Collection (Brothers of the Bow). Yew Stave cut by Earl Ulrich, given to Art Young who passed it on to Sasha Siemel. The bow was acquired by Gene from Sasha Siemel's widow. Included is a large grouping ofpaperwork and letters related to Gene's research on Sasha, Correspondence with Ed O'Brien, reproductions of Sasha Siemel photos, film negatives, correspondence from Siemel's widow to and from Gene. Yew stavewas cut by Earl Ullrich in Oregon, sent to Art Young who finished it and gave it to Sasha in the early 1930s.Saxton Pope and Arthur Young have been honored as the namesakes of the Pope and Young Club, an organization dedicated to bowhunting which continues today and includes its own world record book for North American game. In order to be entered into the Pope and Young records, the game animal must be taken with a bow and arrow. He also reintroduced traditional bow and arrow making skills learned from Ishi to other Native
