Bouraine, Marcel - Art Deco Bronze
<Our item number 122723>Bouraine, Marcel (1886-1948). Art Deco period (c. 1925) bronze of a young woman balancing on one foot, on stepped base of fine Belgian black marble, with tan veining. The top step inscribed: "Bouraine." The scuplture's gilt(?) finish rubbed away in areas. Sculpture needs to be re-attached to base, which is also in need of some modest restoration. Overall height: 11-3/4". Work a good French mix of playfulness and sensuality.

Marcel-Andre Bouraine was born in Pontoise, France, and studied under J. Falguiere (1881 - 1900), who had reintroduced a harder realism to nineteenth-century French sculpture. After WWI, Bouraine began to exhibit at the Salon des Tuileries. The following year he was at the Salon d'Autommne. He specialised in small-scale sculptures of playful nude women, often for several French firms, including Susse Freer, La Verrier, and Arthur Goldscheider. Some later commissions, again mostly female nudes, were e xecuted in colored, translucent pate de verre.
Estimated Value $1,000-1,300.

Our item number 122723
<IMAGES>

</IMAGES>
