A boudoir card shows "Indians who are teachers at Carlisle" as written in pencil beneath. A much larger (7 5/8" x 9 7/8") Imperial mount has pencil inscription on the verso: "One of the Graduating Classes at Carlisle Pa Several members of this class have become distinguished as musicians, etc. There are representatives of seventeen tribes in this group... " The students' names and tribes are imprinted on the bottom margin. The school was an experiment in "assimilating" the Indians into a uniform white culture, with all the traditional tribal features of clothing, hairstyle, obliterated. Top of the mount has been trimmed to the print.
