<B>American Botanist Asa Gray Autograph Letter Signed</B></I> “<I>A. Gray</B></I>”. One page, 7.5” x 5.5”, Cambridge, March 7, 1844, in ink. In this letter Gray arranges payment of $37.50 for an unspecified purpose payable to the recipient of the letter. Asa Gray (1810-1888) is considered by many to be the most important American botanist of the 19th century. Gray was the author of several books on botany and is namesake of the Asa Gray Award, the highest award of the American Society of Plant Taxonomists.
