Boston, MA - $5 1902 Red Seal Fr. 587 The Second NB Ch. # (N)322
Although this was actually the second National Bank chartered in Boston, and despite surviving the Depression, this institution was never a major player amongst this city's banking institutions. In fact, it was one of the largest banks to withdraw its circulation when permitted to do so after World War I, further reducing the number of notes from here available to collectors. Fewer than twenty examples of all kinds comprise the entire census from this issuer, with only two Red Seals, a $10 and a $20, previously reported. This newly discovered piece is not only the only $5 Red Seal extant, but is by far the nicest of the trio. It is a barely circulated piece displaying bright white paper, a flashy red overprint, clear black signatures, and loads of eye appeal. Extremely Fine.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
