Boston Gazette. Paul Revere's design and engr
Boston Gazette. Paul Revere's design and engraving of masthead of Boston Gazette and Country Journal, June 5, 1769, 4 pp. Dark, readable type, 9 1/2 x 1 5. Reflecting high tension between Boston's citizens and the British. Francis Bernard states, "I have no authority over His Majesty's ships in this port or his troops within this town...." News of appointment of Sam Adams, the colorful rabblerouser, as Clerk of Massachusetts Bay's Legislature; Marblehead legislature ordered not to allow taxes to be levied on the people of this province; "...the just rights of your country from insults and designs of wicked men must be vindicated." Interesting ads, including sale of "a likely Negro girl...." Minor stain near top, not affecting masthead, else a desirable example.
