Two letters: a TLS signed “Booth Tarkington,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, Seawood letterhead, July 25, 1945. Letter to columnist Ralph Knight of the Saturday Evening Post. In part: “In reply to your inquiry about ‘interesting reaction by mail from readers’ that I should have had in connection with the publication in a recent Saturday Evening Post of the story, ‘Mr. Rumbin’s Blessed Misfortune,’ I am obliged to make the mortifying admission that except for three art dealers I have received only four or five letters and all of them revealed the following ‘interesting reaction’:—‘Seeing your story in the Post reminds me that I have not yet got your autograph’”; and a second TLS, signed “N. B. Tarkington,” one page, 6 x 9.25, Seawood letterhead, October 13, 1920. In part: “Thanks so much for your note speaking of Miss Marion’s interest in Miss Pickford’s idea that she might do a story of mine.” He also adds a handwritten postscript. Toning, rusty staple holes, and a pencil notation at the top of one letter, otherwise overall fine condition. Accompanied by a related letter from his secretary.
