Booker T. Washington. Born a slave, he
Booker T. Washington. Born a slave, he became one of the leading educators in America. T.L.S. on letterhead of Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute, Alabama, Nov. 20, 1901. With content unusual for his letters: "...We have numbers of girls taking our courses in domestic science at Tuskegee, but none of them are willing to leave the school so early in the term. And then, too, we make no effort to persuade our young people to go North for service, as we believe they can find the greatest field for usefulness in the South among their fellows." Light original folds, else fine, with fine signature.
