International Tennis Hall of Famer (1918-1995) who was ranked Number 1 in the world for three years. After being mostly forgotten for many years, he gained far more fame in 1973 at challenge matches against two of the top female players in the world. "The Battle of the Sexes" match against Billie Jean King was one of the most famous tennis events of all time. Uncommon and early vintage glossy 8 x 10 head-and-shoulders photo, signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint “Good luck to Jimmy, Bobby Riggs 1949.” In fine condition, with a couple of scattered light surface marks. A scarce early photo of the tennis great, long before his famous ‘Battle of the Sexes.’
