Bob Scriver (1914-1999) Prairie Buck Chalkware
For your consideration is this original Bob Scriver chalkware sculpture titled, "Prairie Buck" done in 1957. Chalkware sculptures were done by Scriver himself at his hime foundry and only for a limited number of years, truly a rarity with few known to exist. Robert "Bob" Mcafee Scriver (1914-1999) was born in Browning, Montana (in the heart of the Blackfoot Indian Reservation) in 1914. Scriver began sculpting using taxidermy to learn his craft of making wildlife bronzes. By 1962 he became a charter member of the Society of Animal Artists, had been accepted into the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America, listed in Who’s Who in American Art, and a member of the National Sculpture Society, and the National Academy of Western Art. The sculpture depicts a Pronghorn walking over a rocky area as he looks into the distance. The front of the sculpture at the bottom reads, "Prairie Buck" while the back is signed reading, "© Bob Scriver 1957". The piece shows fair condition overall with the right horn having been repaired. The piece measures 6" L x 2 1/4" W x 7 3/4" H and weighs 14 ounces.
