Bob Scriver (1914-1999) Buffalo Hunter Sculpture
For your consideration is this original Bob Scriver chalkware sculpture titled, "Buffalo Hunter" done in 1960. Chalkware sculptures were done by Scriver himself at his home foundry in Montana for only a few years with very few of them known to exhist. Robert "Bob" Mcafee Scriver (1914-1999) was born in Browning, Montana (in the heart of the Blackfoot Indian Reservation) in 1914. Scriver began sculpting using taxidermy to learn his craft of making wildlife bronzes. By 1962 he became a charter member of the Society of Animal Artists, had been accepted into the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America, listed in Who’s Who in American Art, and a member of the National Sculpture Society, and the National Academy of Western Art. The sculpture shows a man on horseback holding his rifle in his right hand and the reins in his left hand. He is wearing a cowboy hat and has various items on his saddle such as a canteen, a saddle bag and another bag in the back. The front of the sculpture shows the title reading, "Buffalo Hunter" while the back reads, "Bob Scriver © 1960". The piece shows great attention to detail throughout the man and the horse. The piece shows good condition overall with a small chip in the horses left ear and slight scuffing to the horses left side. The piece measures 13 1/4" L x 5 1/4" W x 15" H and weighs 8 pounds and 6 ounces.
