Emmy Award statue issued to Bob Keeshan for his groundbreaking role as ''Captain Kangaroo''. Keeshan was honored by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for Outstanding Achievement in a Continuous Starring Role in a Sustaining Series. Keeshan produced and starred as the grandfatherly title character in his hit children's show, which enjoyed a remarkable 30-year run. Undated award is likely his first, awarded in 1978. Over the course of his career Keeshan would receive a total of six Emmy's for his popular program. The iconic winged woman holding an atom stands on the convex, grid-lined surface of a round metal base, plated in 18-karat gold. Front section is engraved with 6 lines naming the award, its category and recipient: ''Presented To / Robert J. Keeshan / For Outstanding Achievement / In a Continuous Starring Role / In a Sustaining Series / December 30, 1950 to December 30, 1961.'' Measures 14.75'' in total height with a 7.5'' diameter base. Weighs 5 lbs., 14 oz. Underside is lined with black felt. Tarnishing with scattered nicks and scratches and dent to the bottom edge of the base. Figure has loosened and can spin on base. Very good condition overall.
