Mimeographed copy of sheet music to the song ‘Only a Hobo,’ 8.5 x 11, signed at the bottom in pencil, “Bob Dylan ‘63” adding a line from the song, “He was only a Hobo, but one more is gone!” Scattered light creasing, light carbon paper-related soiling, heavier along the right and bottom edge (covering but not adversely affecting his signature), two tiny tears along the left edge, a staple hole, and two tiny spots of tape repair covering staple holes, otherwise very good condition.
The lyrics to this Dylan song were originally published in the folk magazine Broadside, with this page an example of those published lyrics. In March 1963, Dylan recorded the song in the magazine’s office, with Broadside then releasing it on the album, Broadside Ballads, Volume I. As Dylan was still under contract with Columbia Records, the tune was credited to his famed alias, Blind Boy Grunt. Even so early in his career, Dylan’s obvious vocal stylings came across on the recording—although Columbia executives either didn’t know or didn’t care about the singer’s moonlighting. Dylan is scarce in any form, especially so early in his career, and handwritten lyrics from any time period are virtually nonexistent.
