Historic blue transfer "Syracuse, NY" porcelain plate by "The Rowland & Marsellus Co." made in "Staffordshire England" with under-glaze blue mark; rare plate is decorated with historic scenes of early Syracuse including landmark buildings & events; border depicts 6 panes with a different scene including Erie Canal, Syracuse Savings Bank, "The New Court House", Carnegie Library, South Salina Street with Bridge, the High School and "John Crouse College of Fine Arts - Syracuse University"; central scene depicts 14 horse drawn carts racing in front of a grandstand which is filled to capacity; a portrait of Native American chief in full feather headdress is inset at top of scene; inscribed "Horse Racing at the State Fair Grounds Syracuse NY"; excellent condition with very small flake from back edge of rim and minor scratches; 10" diameter
