African-American politician (1841–1898) who represented Mississippi as a Republican in the US Senate. Two items: ALS signed “B. K. Bruce,” one page, 5 x 8, June 25, 1883. Letter to Albert L. Lord, Esq., of Cleveland, Ohio. In full: “Your favor of the 18th inst. has been rec’d. It affords me pleasure to comply with the request contained there in”; and an ink signature, “B. K. Bruce, Register—U.S. Treasury,” on a 3.5 x 2.25 card. In fine condition with light wrinkling and faint edge toning to the letter. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
