According to factory records (photocopy included) this revolver was part of a shipment to Simmons Hardware of St. Louis, Missouri on Feb. 12, 1884. Except for the "Rubber" grips, the records confirm the revolver's features. Fixed sights, with the two line Hartford address on top of the barrel and "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" in an oval acid etched panel on the left side. Black powder frame, with the early three line, three date patent markings on the left side, "44 CAL" on the trigger guard, "L" on the rear cylinder face and "4264" on the loading gate. Matching numbers on the frame and grip straps. Two piece mother of pearl grips, with the left panel smooth and the right carved with a raised steer head.

Condition: Very fine, with 60% of the original nickel finish, showing areas of brown patina on the grip straps, cylinder, barrel and ejector housing, a few scattered areas of pitting and light handling marks overall. Some frosting of the nickel is also visible. Grips are very fine, with a few tiny chips and age cracks. Mechanically fine. Original nickel plated, etched panel, 4 3/4 inch barrel. Colt SAA's are seldom encountered in this untouched, unpolished original condition.
