Blackfoot War Tomahawk Cutout Blade 19th Century
Offered for sale is an excellent authentic Blackfoot Native American Indian Tomahawk War Club from the 19th Century. The war tomahawk has a thin, forged iron head and features a unique exceedingly rare large, triangular cut out in the center of the blade. The piece shows a hard wood haft with traces of old black pigment paint and is adorned with brass tacks along with a small buckskin fringed wrap drop at the bottom end. This is truly a wonderful large, heavy authentic weapon from the high plains and shows very well preserved condition with some nicks and wear indicative of is early age and use. Other similar triangle cut outs on tomahawk blades have been documented in the “American Indian Tomahawks” book from 1965 by Harold Peterson, figure 247, 248, and 249. The piece measures 20”L overall with a 8.5”L x 4.75” across blade.
