This is an exceptional and important triple batwing pipe tomahawk war club from the Blackfoot Native American Indians circa 1880. Provenance: The tomahawk is from a large private collection in Paris, France and was purchased directly from collector/dealer Mark Francis (confirmed with Mark Francis). Mark Francis is one of the foremost knowledge on early rare tomahawks and wrote the book, “The Mark Francis Collection of American Indian Art” and “The Missouri War Axe”. The tomahawk shows the extremely rare triple batwing punch outs with this being the only known example having the three batwings (there are very limited documented examples of any batwing tomahawks let alone this exceptional triple batwing). The forged iron blade shows the three punch outs and eight pierced round accents. The piece has a wood haft having various brass trade tacks accenting the piece. Measures overall 21.5”L with a 12 1/8”L x 3.75”W x 1.5” thick pipe tomahawk head. Similar and earlier double batwing tomahawks have sold for $35,000 and other tomahawks from Mark Francis collection have sold in excess of $50,000.
