This is a very nice authentic mid to late 19th Century Blackfoot (Blackfeet) Native American Indian warriors dag knife. The piece shows the inconic "Beaver Tail" or "Paddle-Dag" design with the handle being secured onto the forged blade with six copper rivets. The blade has a raised medium ridge running down the center of both sides, an attributed which is an early documented weapons feature. The entire knife has a deep chocolate patina. The piece shows a line of three brass tacks along with top hilt area and seven brass tacks along the pommel end, a fine later addition to the piece. This is truly a fine and desireable edged weapon from the American Indian Wars Period. Unlike other utensil and fighting knives that would have been used as tools along with being brought into battle, the Dag Knife was used strictly only as a killing tool. These were typically were stored in an adorned sheath that would have been worn around the neck for easy access during a altercation. The knife measures overall 12 inches in length by 2.7 inches in width.
